The Headlands Institute (A NatureBridge Campus)
Founded in 1977, the Headlands Institute has served tens of thousands of people (of all ages and from diverse backgrounds) through environmental science education, summer day camps, leadership training for teens, and professional development for teachers. Using nature's classroom to inspire a personal connection to the natural world, they inspire children and adults to care for our shared environment. Through its parent organization NatureBridge, the Headland's Institute received the 2004 California Governor's Award for Environmental and Economic Leadership in Children's Education.
The Marine Mammal Center
The Marine Mammal Center, based in Sausalito, CA, has been rescuing and treating elephant seals, sea lions, sea otters, harbor seals, fur seals, dolphins and harbor porpoises since 1975. Dedicated to raising awareness of the interdependence between human beings and marine mammals, and to inspire action that protects our marine environment, they continue to educate and empower over 100,000 children and adults every year. This summer they will be partnering up with The Headlands Institute to create a summer camp called Seal Scouts!
Gweek National Seal Sanctuary
Gweek National Seal Sanctuary is a busy rescue center in the UK, close to the village of Gweek, in Cornwall. The Sanctuary has resident Grey Seals, Common Seals, Fur Seals, Hooded Seal, Patagonian & California Sea Lions, Goats, Sheep, Ponies and Otters. (The first 10 people to buy A Tale of Serendipity contributed to the safety and happiness of Luna, the seal pictured to the right, who was rescued by the lovely people working at the Sanctuary.)
The Rainforest Site
The Rainforest Site utilizes the power and potential of the Internet to support our planet and its many inhabitants. Since its launch in 2000, it has generated funds to purchase and preserve thousands of acres of endangered land, to promote Animal Rescue, Literacy, Child Health and more.
Some of the sponsors for the Rainforest Site include The Nature Conservancy, The Rainforest Conservation Fund, The World Parks Endowment, and Rainforest2Reef -- all committed to preserving rainforest land in Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay and other locations worldwide.
